Lot of religious and caste in India - But Why are we not finding new Adi Sankar's or Ramanujar's?
"We have lot of religious and caste in India, then we find only one Sankaracharyar(Adi Sankarar), only one Ramanujar (Udayavar). Reading their impact over the vast society we understand that they were not like our present Madathipathi's. We see lot of hindu ashrams run by several people, now. Why are we not finding people like Adi Sankarar / Ramanujar - now?" This was a question from one of my friends. Here is my answer
You cannot expect a new Sun to be born every now and then. When considering the Bramha’s Age – millions of years – our life span is very very insignificant and you expect miracles alone to happen, I suppose (which is not natural). Remember – Adi Sankarar was an avatharapurusha, may be in a thousand years you will find someone like that. Ramanujar (Emperumaanar alais Udayavar) was one such avatharapurusha.
Last century has seen – Ramakrishna already, what more do you expect? Indians are gifted for they always have a lineage of very great souls (realized Mahans – there are so many even today – but they do not act and perform as Adi Sankar / Ramanuja did). Avatharapurusha’s have very specific tasks for the society and we should not compare them to Realized Soles, who are there as examples for a small group of people, and those who follow them - get benefited. And they need not act and change a very vast set of society and may not have an influence like those avatharapurushas.
For that matter – Periya periya was considered to be a avatharapurusha to instill the faith of public in Veda and sanathana dharma. As we are in a transitional phase where Kali is getting stronger - day by day, we need to change our outlook as well. That’s why Mahan’s like Sri Sri Krishna Perami swamigal / Sri Sri Muralidara Swamigal are guiding us to the one and only way out of the kali dosha and out of this samsara.
Any –way, note there is big social setup change from the older periods as compared to the setup that you find now. It was possible that every one accepted one great soul in those days. Now it is more tricky, you will find a set of followers for any tom-and-dick in a street. The capacity of people has been very much varied. Also remember - so, people get what they deserve.
I have many more thoughts in these lines – I am at peace – I am not looking out for any great change in the society (God is already taking care of it and I trust him). I believe, in whatever way we can, we should be doing something good in whatever small way we can and bring in those small changes around us and leave the rest to the 'Lakshmi Nathan' (God). That would be always be nice but never expect a miracle to happen suddenly, all around you - from an external agency.
Hope I have answered the question, if you are still having more doubts that you are desperate to clarify you can put them in the Namadwaar site where Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji himself personally answers them.
